From our family to yours

My mom and I started amor ceramics in our basement pottery studio in 2021. What would have been my first year away at university ended up being a year of memories made together in the studio. We started to develop our style - leaning into pinks and whites, painting cherries, making little trinket dishes and more.

Our favourite thing about amor ceramics is how we are able to do what we both love, together. I never thought I would have the opportunity to spend my early 20s making art with my mom. I’m sure she never expected her retirement to be so busy! We are the luckiest two in the world.

Amor Ceramics is truly a family business. My mom makes most of the work, I paint most of it, my sisters help with pricing, cutting business cards and packaging, while my dad supports us with administrative help. My grandma is the bag-stamper, and of course our dogs, Henry and Paco, are our mascots. Beyond our immediate family, we are supported by our community - my partner, who built our market set-up, my brother-in-law, who helps us with the heavy lifting, and all of our friends who have visited our markets and cheered us on.

We really feel that everyone who has supported amor ceramics has become part of our amor ceramics family. What I find so special about pottery is how it connects us. It makes our day at markets when we hear that someone is buying a dish for their daughter who saw us on social media, or when a husband sneakily buys the ring holder their wife was admiring as soon as she turns around, or when someone’s face lights up at the sight of our work. The thought of our mugs being used for someone’s daily coffee, or our platters serving Thanksgiving dinner, is what motivates us to keep making.

Thank you all for your support of my mom and I, it truly means the world!
